Our board certified physicians, experienced nurse practitioner, certified clinical research coordinators, and research staff will listen carefully and evaluate your medical history to determine if you will qualify to participate in an investigational drug study. Our friendly and dedicated staff will perform study related doctor visits, procedures and test during the study at no cost to you. Many of our clinical investigational studies provide financial compensation for time and travel to our office.
Our dedicated physicians and coordinators are experienced in conducting clinical trials in asthma, COPD, allergic rhinitis, hives, and immunological disorders. Our center has conducted clinical trials for over 40 years and has contributed to the approval of new treatments for respiratory and allergic diseases. We strive to conduct the highest quality clinical research ensuring and protecting the rights and safety of all participating patients.
Our physician investigators are board certified in Allergy, Asthma, Immunology and Internal Medicine or Pediatrics. David Bernstein, MD and Jonathan Bernstein, MD are both faculty members at the University of Cincinnati and involved in research and the training of new physicians.
David I. Bernstein, MD
David Bernstein, MD, is Professor of Medicine and Environmental Health at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He is co-director of the Allergy Fellowship training program and Director of the University Hospital Allergy Clinic. Dr. Bernstein is Principal Investigator of an NIH T32 training grant and PI of a NIOSH/CDC sponsored RO1 study of genetic markers of Occupational Asthma. He chairs the American Board of Allergy and Immunology that certifies clinical competence of U.S. allergy specialists. He serves on the editorial board of JACI In Practice and Journal of Asthma.
Dr. Bernstein earned his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Hospital. He received training in Allergy and Immunology at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Bernstein is board certified in Internal Medicine, Allergy-Immunology and Diagnostic Laboratory Immunology.
Dr. Bernstein’s primary research interests has been in the field of occupational asthma and environmental causes of allergic disorders in children. He has authored and co-authored over 200 original publications in medical journals as well as numerous reviews and book chapters. Dr. Bernstein directs a very active clinical research center in Cincinnati where he has served as Principal Investigator in 100’s of clinical trials of new therapies for asthma, COPD and allergic disorders.
Jonathan A, Bernstein, MD
Dr. Jonathan A. Bernstein is Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Immunology/Allergy Section at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and partner of the Bernstein Allergy Group and Clinical Research Center. He received his BA from Kenyon College in 1981 and his MD from the University Of Cincinnati College Of Medicine in 1985. He completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Hospital from 1985-1988 and his Allergy/Clinical Immunology training at Northwestern University from 1988-1990.
His current research involves the health effects of UV irradiation units as an environmental intervention installed in the homes of asthmatic children funded by NIAID, novel therapies for the treatment of angioedema/chronic urticaria, biomarkers and mechanisms of HAE, immunosurveillance for Trimellitic anhydride sensitization in the workplace, food and drug hypersensitivity, allergenicity of cyanobacteria, phenotyping/endotyping chronic rhinitis subtypes specifically non-allergic rhinitis and seminal plasma hypersensitivity. Dr. Bernstein is a DIA certified investigator with extensive experience conducting multicenter and physician initiated clinical therapeutic trials related to asthma, COPD, rhinitis, urticaria, hereditary and ACE-induced angioedema. Dr. Bernstein is an author in 245 peer reviewed articles in addition to numerous book chapters on a variety of relevant topics in Allergy and Clinical Immunology. He is the co-editor of the textbook published in 2014, Clinical Asthma: Theory and Practice, also published in Spanish, Rhinitis published by Elsevier and Editor of the book Rhinitis published by Springer . He is the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Asthma and is on the editorial board of the Annals of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, Allergy Asthma Proceedings and Journal of Angioedema and a regular reviewer for these journals as well as JACI(editorial board member 2012-2017) and JACI: In Practice. He is on the medical advisory board of the HAEA organization, a board member of the AAAAI Foundation and Interasma and Chairman of AFI.
Dr. Bernstein is actively involved with the University of Cincinnati Allergy Fellowship Training Program in the education of fellows and also teaches residents and medical students. Dr. Bernstein has been voted “Best Doctor” in Cincinnati from 1999 to 2017 and has been ranked by US New and World Report as being in the top 1% of doctors in his specialty. He is a member of the University of Cincinnati Alpha Omega Alpha chapter.
